My name is Sara Reed and this will be my 13th year as the Technology Applications teacher at McAnally. I feel like I have the best job in the world here at McAnally since I have the privilege of seeing all students when they arrive to McAnally as 5th graders and many of the same faces in 6th grade as well. This year 5th grade students will come to me every day for 9 weeks during their elective/PE period and we work on keyboarding skills, Google Apps for Education, and MS Office skills. 6th graders will who have signed up for the MACs rotation will come to me every day for 2 six weeks where we will review our typing skills and work on more complex and engaging technology projects using the Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), GAFE, Movie Maker Live and various Web 2.0 tools found on the Internet.
A little bit about me -
I am a graduate of Stephen F Austin State University where I received my BA in Management with a minor in Office Administration. Currently, I am working on my masters in Instructional Design and Technology online at West Texas A&M with hope to graduate in the summer of 2017. During high school and college I worked at Six Flags Over Texas in the Games department and after graduation worked as the database specialist for their Retail department.
A short time later, I moved to Houston, Texas where I worked for Pappas Restaurants who own Pappasitos and Pappadeaux as a trainer in their IT department. While living in Houston, I met and married my husband, Robby and shortly after our wedding, we were transferred to Temple, TX.
While in Temple, I worked in the technology department at Scott and White Hospital as a IT Help Desk Specialist and a Security Analyst. After the birth of our two children, Christopher and Haylee and a move back to the Metroplex, I joined the IT department in Birdville ISD working as a Help Desk Supervisor and Trainer. It took me 6 more years, before I finally realized that my true calling was to be a teacher and I have been teaching every since.
Currently, I am working on my masters degree in Instructional Design and Technology out of West Texas A&M and look forward to applying the skills gained in these classes with my students and my colleagues on campus.
I can't believe it took me so long to find my true calling but I am here now and LOVING every minute of it!! I love finding new ways to use technology and share that love with my students. It is my goal during 5th and 6th grade for my students to develop their keyboarding skills and help prepare them to be 21st century learners as they continue their middle and high school careers.
I am looking forward to an amazing 2016-2017 school year! If you have any questions during year, please do not hesitate to email me - I look forward to meeting you soon.
